As we navigate through the complexities of life, relationships often play a significant role in shaping our experiences and well-being. Whether it's with a partner, family member, friend, or even ourselves, the dynamics of relationships can impact our mental health and overall happiness. That's where relationship therapy comes in, offering a safe space to explore and improve the connections we have with others.

Relationships in many ways can be like a German Waltz. Two people, both holding their ground, waiting for the other to move or say something. Except in the Relationship Waltz, neither person speaks the same language, but both expect the other to know exactly what they mean and what to do. This sums up a lot of conflicts in relationships, as in a relationship there is two (or more) individual people, who each have their own lived experience, past history, and perception of the world. They both have ways of doing and seeing things that they have picked up throughout their life, which ultimately have helped them to survive / regulate through any past trauma or conflicts they may have been in. So yes, when there is a conflict in a relationship, or even if this is a new relationship, both people will be waiting for the other to move first. Couples therapy allows each person to hold hands, and understand (through empathy and love) what their partners lived experiences are, and hence create their own Waltz with a choreography that both partners feel comfortable. It may take time, and the occasional stepping on each others feet, but with commitment and trust there will be a wonderful dance to show after.
